Less than a month is left for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to elect or re-elect, the most accomplished of all individuals to guide the footballing efforts across Asia.
One of the three personalities hoping to oust prevailing AFC President Shaikh Salman is H.H Mohammad Khalfan Al-Romaithi, Chairman of the UAE General Authority for Sport. The UAE Sports leader stated that the game has ‘sold its soul’ in the Asian continent. As a part of his campaign bid to become the President of AFC, he pledged to clean up the mess and unbar the potential of the world’s biggest football continent.
While addressing to a select group of individuals at the beautiful Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi, he issued his manifesto asserting that “Asia deserves something better” and placed stress on remaining just across investment, participation and independence, all of which has been specified under the manifesto slogan of ‘Making Football Fair’.
The confidence of Al-Romaithi seemed evident at the session opening when he started with an introductory video of himself. The video elaborated about his past as a child, the values, and ethical foundation based on his upbringing, it also focused on his target of becoming Asian Football President and making the game fair for everyone.
The experienced veteran stated that “Football in Asia is failing” as he remained determined in the years of incomplete investment and poor governance, which has halted the growth of the world’s most popular game in the world’s biggest football continent. All sports across Asia are developing but seems like football is the only sport that is not progressing. We need to place a lot of emphasis in the game to do so. Especially in those nations that are not regarded football countries which are far away from the ten – twelve that presently tend to dominate.
Hence, his manifesto, under the expert guidance, stresses on AFC becoming the most “all-inclusive and independent” football confederation in the globe, dreaming to make Asia and its respective Member Association’s truly independent, free from pressure, free to make decisions and free to vote for the best candidate within with the just policies.
