A study of the brain of 40 employees of the US Embassy in Cuba, who allegedly suffered from microwave weapons, showed visible differences with the control group. Diplomats declared strange high-frequency sounds, after which they had health problems. The cause of the symptoms, the researchers did not name.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of patients confirms the structural changes in the brain, noted Radiology professor and co-author of the study RajiniVerma. According to her, some of the victims are still undergoing rehabilitation.
Since the end of 2016, American diplomats have reported strange high-frequency sounds in Havana, after which they experienced severe headaches, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, and loss of coordination and hearing.
In September 2017, the United States withdrew most of its diplomatic staff from the Cuban capital. US President Donald Trump blamed the attacks on the Cuban authorities and expelled 15 Cuban diplomats from Washington. Havana denies any involvement in the attacks.
In June 2018, the United States also recalled several Americans from a consulate in Guangzhou, China, after diplomats had the same symptoms of an “acoustic attack”. The Chinese authorities have announced the investigation and that they did not reveal anything suspicious.
