Qatari Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdul rahman Al Thani not only criticized the US sanctions on Iran but is also supporting Iran. It even supported the statement made by the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. Zarif stated that the US sanctions won’t have any impact on the Islamic Republic policies either on their homeland or abroad. Al Thani stated that he won’t back the US unilateral sanctions against Iran. Iran regime has been issued sanctions across various regimes by the US administration. The sanctions include firms dealing with the Iranian government, freezing of $12 billion Iranian assets, and many more. Moreover, he urged that Washington should return to the historic Iran nuclear deal from which the US withdrew from the deal in May. Al Thani added that his country is not promoting unilateral steps against any nations. He feels that implementing of sanctions on Iran isn’t a solution. He added that Qatar wasn’t on the same page with other Persian Gulf Arab states that didn’t support the landmark agreement, previously known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. He added that Iran has been facing sanctions over the last 40 years but when an agreement was reached the (P) GCC was kept out of it. Hence, he feels that the GCC members should act together to solve the regional crises. The GCC is facing a wave of assaults which has been mainly initiated by Qatar. It is a well known fact that Iran and Qatar along with Turkey struck a deal in late November.  As per the deal, the three nations are going to create a joint working group to assist the transportation of goods between the three nations. Even though the agreement might seem like a humble effort to simplify trade flow to Qatar. One thing is sure Qatar has joined forces against former Arab allies. It has decisively placed itself in a regional alliance that seeks geopolitical dominance by driving instability. One of the things that need to be noted about the alliance between Qatar and Iran is that it’s not limited to the field of economics and politics only. Even the Iranian football team has been named for Qatar training camp. Iran’s national football team would be traveling to Doha to hold a training camp in the Persian Gulf country till 24th Dec. The national football team has been drawn along with Iraq, Yemen and Vietnam. They would be playing the 2019 AFC Asian Cup which is to be held in the United Arab Emirates from January 5 to February 1.
