The commander of the Libyan national army, KhalifaHaftar, said that the LNA would soon raise the “banner of victory” in the center of Tripoli.
” People and the army will soon raise the banner of victory in the center of the capital for its residents and those who enter it, “said Haftar during a speech broadcast by Arab and Libyan television channels.
Haftar also stressed that the goal of Operation LNA is “to liberate the country from east to west, from north to south, so that not a single piece of land remains that the terrorists dare to dirty with their unclean feet.”
On April 4, Haftar launched an attack on Tripoli for “liberation from terrorists.” Armed units loyal to the Government of National Accord (PNS) in Tripoli announced the start of the “Vulcan of Wrath” response operation. As a result of fighting in Tripoli and its surroundings, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 10 thousand people died, more than 5.5 thousand were injured.
After the overthrow and murder of the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya virtually ceased to function as a single state. Now dual power reigns in the country. The parliament elected by the people sits in the east, and in the west, in the capital Tripoli, the government of national accord headed by Fayez Sarraj rules with the support of the UN and the European Union. The authorities in the eastern part of the country operate independently of Tripoli and cooperate with the Libyan National Army.
