The presidents of Russia and Iran – Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani – agreed on direct contacts between the two countries’ Health Ministries to combat coronavirus.
According to the Kremlin’s press service, the presidents on Tuesday in a telephone conversation discussed “the issue of combating the spread of coronavirus infection.” “In this regard, Rouhani thanked for the assistance provided by Russia to Iran,” the press service said.
“It was agreed to intensify the interaction of relevant departments, including direct contacts between ministries of health,” the Kremlin emphasized.
Putin and Rouhani also emphasized the “importance of consolidating the efforts of the international community to collectively counteract the coronavirus pandemic and the Russian initiative to create“ green corridors ”during the crisis for unhindered supply of medicines, equipment and technologies, as well as a moratorium on any restrictions on export of goods essentials. ”
Earlier, the republic’s ambassador to the Russian Federation, Kazem Jalali, said that Iran, which had declared an acute need for medical masks, mechanical ventilation apparatus, and diagnostic test systems, had already received help from a number of states, including Russia. As the Iranian embassy in Moscow reported on April 11, Russia sent 500 test systems for coronavirus, which can be used for 50,000 people, to Iran as humanitarian aid. The Iranian diplomatic mission noted that Russia not only provided medical assistance to Iran, but also took a friendly stance on American sanctions, advocating their lifting, in particular, in the current conditions of the spread of coronavirus.
