Japan became the largest foreign holder of US Treasures, ahead of China

Japan currently owns US government securities worth $ 1.12 trillion. This follows from the materials published on Thursday by the US Treasury for June this year.

Thus, Japan for the first time since May 2017 became the largest holder of US Treasurer, ahead of China with an indicator of $ 1.11 trillion.

In June, Japan increased its asset by almost $ 23 billion, while China, by contrast, reduced it by $ 9 billion.

Over the past couple of years, China has firmly held the position of the largest investor in US Treasury securities, but some experts did not exclude that, in the wake of the trade confrontation with the United States, it would be less active in investing in this instrument and, possibly, would use it as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Washington.
