The Permanent Mission of Russia to the North Atlantic Alliance confirmed on Thursday in Brussels to Russian journalists that preparations are under way for a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council.
“We confirm the preparations for the next meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, which is scheduled for July 5. We are counting on a serious discussion of the security situation in Europe in connection with the US announced exit from the INF Treaty, as well as on the predictability of military activities,” the Russian diplomatic mission said.
Earlier, US Permanent Representative to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchinson told reporters that the alliance had offered Russia to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on July 5 and is now waiting for a response from it. “Russia did not firmly say that it will arrive (to the meeting – IF). We hope to hold the meeting on July 5, and offered it to her (Russia – IF). We hope that the meeting will take place, because it is very important that we talk”, – noted the American diplomat.
