US-China trade war could take long time to resolve

White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow said the United States is interested in the “short-term” outcome of trade negotiations with China.  He also warned that it could take years to resolve the trade conflict between the two largest economies in the world.

Kudlow explained that although negotiations have been ongoing for 18 months, given the seriousness of the issue, this is a relatively short period of time.

Kudlow confirmed that the negotiations would be resumed in early October, but refused to predict their results and did not name an approximate time frame for reaching an agreement.

US President Donald Trump tweeted that China is suffering from new customs duties imposed by him.  “Billions are flowing into the United States.  Patriotic farmers (for whose products China has imposed sanctions – GA) will receive large sums of dollars from new tariffs.  Good employment statistics.  No inflation.  China has the worst year in decades.  Negotiations are ongoing, which is good for everyone. ”
