US resumes assistance to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador

The United States intends to resume financial assistance to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to address migration issues.  This is stated in a statement released on Wednesday by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.

“The State Department today informed Congress of its intention to resume financial assistance to Guatemala, Honduras and Salvador,” said Pompeo. “Earlier this year, as instructed by the President, I ordered the State Department and the US Agency for International Development to suspend assistance to these countries until their governments take action  significant action to deter the number of migrants arriving at the US border. ”  “Thanks to the president’s policy and the response of these countries, we see great progress,” the text says.

According to the Secretary of State, assistance in some volumes is resuming to ensure further progress.  “Funding is aimed at supporting programs to reduce illegal migration,” said the head of department.
