US Sanctions Hit The Venezuelans Too

It is strange that while the US constantly continues to get flagged for ruining diplomatic ties left and centre, the Justice Department is feeling extremely responsible for controlling the movement of oil trade that Iran might be indulging itself into.

According to confirmed report, America has seized almost four ships of oil that were being transported to Venezuela. According to the US, this was against the US sanctions on Iran. About 1.1 million barrels of fuel was confiscated “with the assistance of foreign partners”, according to the Justice Department that has said that this is one of the biggest ever seizures by them.

Apparently, the Justice Department has made a move, after a formal court ruling that allowed the seizure of the consignment meant to go to Venezuela. The move has been justified after America proved that the consignment was owned by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a branch of the Iranian armed forces that the US has already designated as a foreign terrorist organisation.

The world is criticizing the Trump administration for taking back America’s diplomatic relations to the dark ages. In an earlier move, Trump has also pulled the US out of the alliance that supports UN’s largest health body, the WHO.

The four vessels captured include the Bella, Bering, Pandi and Luna. According to political analysts, Washington intends to drive Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro from power and change the behaviour of Iranian leaders. While Muduro has been considered a dictator, the method of tightening economic supplies to countries is not something that can only overthrow the latter’s government. It also affects the lives of the common man. The same repercussion has had to be felt by Iranians who are reeling under severe economic pressure due to stringent economic sanctions levied upon them by the US.

America has chosen to hit where it hurts the most- oil exports for Venezuela and Iran.  Strangely, the American authorities have already decided how to dispose-off the oil shipment and the US State Department has declared that the proceeds from the seized shipments “could now support the US Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Fund instead of those engaging in terrorism”.
